'290 km-range BrahMos missile very reliable'

New Delhi, Dec 8: A top Russian military official today said he would recommend the induction of the 290 km-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in his country's armed forces.

"I can recommend it to be fielded. It is an interesting missile and a very reliable one which has no match in terms of performance in the world," Russian Chief of General Staff General Nikolai E Makarov told reporters during his visit to the BrahMos complex here.

Though developed jointly by the two countries, only India has inducted the missile in its inventory. Due to lack of new platforms, the Russian armed forces have not inducted it.

With new platforms being inducted into the Russian armed forces, the missile is expected to be deployed in the navy and air force there in the near future.
