[b]Mineral water for all villages in EG on cards[/b]


KAKINADA: For the first time in the state, the East Godavari zilla parishad has prepared an action plan to supply mineral water to all the villages, including those in the Agency areas. As per the plan, nearly 1,000 such plants would be set up in the district.

In the first phase, work on 500 such plants would be taken up. "We have submitted the project report of the plan to the government, which has responded positively," said C Bhavani Das, chief executive officer of the ZP.

The total project cost is Rs 35 crore. Sources said though cost on each plant would be around Rs 5 lakh, the entire project would be completed by spending Rs 35 crore. "The aim is to provide clean potable water and contain water-borne diseases in the Agency areas," Das said.

ZP chairperson Ch Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna said another plan is also being drafted to supply hygienic food to students under the midday meals scheme by centralising the kitchen units. He said the students would be supplied two litres of water along with hygienic food.
