The 9-year-old girl killed in the Tucson shooting rampage that critically wounded a member of Congress was the granddaughter of former Major League Baseball manager Dallas Green, his former team said on Sunday.

The young victim, Christina Taylor Green, was also the daughter of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball scout John Green.

Dallas Green managed the Philadelphia Phillies team that won the World Series in 1980.

"The Phillies organization expresses our heartfelt condolences to Dallas and ... the entire Green family on the senseless, tragic loss of Christina's life," the Phillies said in a statement.

Frank McCourt, the owner of the Dodgers, said in a statement his team lost "a member of the Dodgers family."
