DS to continue as PCC chief

Hyderabad, Jan 14: The AICC Central Election Authority chairman, Mr Oscar Fernandes, has declared that the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, Mr Dharmapuri Srinivas, will continue to hold the office of APCC chief until further orders.

The AICC leader issued this clarification officially on Friday in the wake of reports that a new PCC president will be nominated as the present incumbent’s tenure was over.

Rumors have been doing the rounds after the dismal show of the party in the recent by-elections that he would be changed. Mr Srinivas was personally defeated in the elections from Nizamabad Urban. The names of the Rajya Sabha member, Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao, and the former speaker, Mr K. R. Suresh Reddy, prominently figured for the post. However, the Congress high command appears to have come to the decision that it would be better to continue Mr Srinivas in view of the uncertain situation prevailing in the State because of the Telangana agitation.
