Hyderabad, Jan 25: Senior citizens, retired employees and other professionals, who actively participated in the 1969 Telangana agitation, have strongly felt that separate Telangana State would be the only lasting solution to the decades’ old agitation. Stating that restoration of pre-1956 Telangana State, as suggested by the Centre-sponsored Justice B N Srikrishna Committee, in its Option No. 5, was the only solution, they demanded that the UPA government introduce Telangana Formation Bill in the ensuing Budget session of Parliament in conformity with its December 9, 2009 declaration.

The 1969 Telangana agitators, who met here on Tuesday, appealed to the Congress leaders of the Telangana region to mount pressure on the Centre and ensure introduction of Telangana Bill in Parliament, failing to do so, they should resign from their elective posts and plunge into the movement. They also appealed to the leaders of all political parties, public organisations and JACs to remain united and plunge into the movement in order to boost the morale of the students.

The Telangana veterans also pointed out that Fazal Ali Commission, which went into the issue in 1955, observed in its report (paragraphs 383 and 384) that any number of legally made arrangements would not render justice to the people of the region. Besides, all agreements, Government Orders and even Presidential Order were not implemented by the Seemandhra rulers in the State during the last 54 years, they said, adding that the sixth option of the Justice Srikrishna Committee cannot be implemented as it was not a permanent solution.

The 1969 Telangana agitation leaders met under the presidentship of former secretary of Osmania University students union, Mr Vavilala Bhoopathi Reddy, paid homage to the Telangana martyrs.

Acharya Sridhara Swamy of Telangana Senior Citizens’ Association, the TPF secretary, Mr M. D Sanaullah Khan, Mr P Vittal Rao of Advoates JAC, Mr G Mutyalu Yadav, Mr A Willam and Mr Vavilala Bhoopathi Reddy were present.
