India is yet to express its condolences or sympathise with the victims of Monday's devastating airport suicide bombing which killed 35 people and injured 180 others in Moscow . This even as Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani sent personal messages to their Russian counterparts strongly condemning the incident.

The attack occurred at around 7 pm IST at Domodedovo, Moscow's main international airport but as of 4 pm IST there was no response from India's Ministry of External Affairs. "We have noted this (lack of a statement). We do hope the Indian government will issue a statement today," said a Russian diplomat who did not want to be named.

Zardari strongly condemned the bomb attack and expressed solidarity with the Russian people. "Nothing could justify such a terrorist attack against innocent people," PTV quoted a statement from President Zardari to President Dmitry Medvedev. Prime Minister Gilani sent a message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin expressing solidarity with the Russian people and strongly condemning the act of terrorism.

The MEA was busy hosting a ceremonial reception for Indonesian President Susilo Bambamg Yudhoyono, who is here on a three-day state visit and is the chief guest at the Republic Day parade tomorrow.

"It's surprising, even Georgians (whom Russia fought a brief war with in 2008) and President Zardari of Pakistan were quick in expressing sympathy with victims but not our strategic partner India," says a Russian journalist based in New Delhi.
