Ranga_The_Donga Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 The district collector, Mr Peeyush Kumar, said on Wednesday the government spent Rs 256 crore for infrastructure development in Vijayawada city during the last few years under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The collector said the government constructed 10,600 houses and another 7,300 houses are under construction under the JNNURM in the city. The collector hoisted the national flag at the parade grounds in Machilipatnam on Wednesday on the occasion of Republic Day and took guard of honour.Addressing a huge gathering, Mr Peeyush Kumar, narrated the developmental works taking place and welfare schemes being implemented in the district. He said tenders have been called for Budameru channel diversion works at a cost of Rs 230 crore and KEB canal works would be modernised with Rs 90 crore. He said the government also opened irrigation office in Vijayawada to speed up delta modernisation works.Referring to sanction of loans to the farmers in Krishna district, the collector said the district administration sanctioned Rs 1,604 crore for kharif season against the target of Rs 1,556 crore. He said the district administration sanctioned Rs 40 crore input subsidy to the farmers who suffered crop loss due to heavy rains and cyclones. He said the government is determined to rescue the farmers who sustained loss due to natural calamities.
