About 35 Indian students of the closed Tri-Valley University (TVU) in San Francisco have met Indian consul general in San Francisco to seek help from the Indian authorities. The students wanted Indian government’s intervention to help them complete their studies.

During their meeting with the Indian officials, the students said they had valid visas and were not part of illegal immigration racket, as reported in some sections of media.

“We are concerned about the Indian students. We are in touch with the US government regarding this. All the 35 students who met the consul general had valid visas. In fact, some of them had taken transfer from other universities to join Tri-Valley,” said a senior official from ministry of external affairs (MEA).

The US government is investigating a possible visa fraud in connection with the education in Tri-Valley and is interrogating its students.

“Our interest is in the welfare of our students. Hope they get adequate opportunity to clarify their position to the authorities there,” the official said.

The official clarified that India-US are one of the biggest partners in education with about 1,05,000 Indian students studying in the US.
