Intelligence Note: How China Engages India

1. Activate Naxal and Jihadi terrorists to cause as much havoc as possible in as many parts of India as feasible. Perhaps instigate the seizure of an entire city somewhere to cause psychological setback. I frequently hear of contacts between some Nepali Maoists and their Indian counterparts from a senior military intelligence officer.

2. Mobilize Pakistani forces along the border to distract Indian attention.

3. With the onset of war, have the most capable elements of the Pakistani air force bomb Bangalore, a city that apparently obsesses Pakistanis, or Mumbai. (Read 2007 Article) Both actions will have potentially durable negative consequences for the Indian economy.

4. Launch ground troops at some distance from Arunachal Pradesh to divert Indian troops, but only hold them down without any serious advance into Indian territory..

5. Send well-equipped airborne forces into Arunachal Pradesh to hold and seize enough territory to constitute a major presence.

6. In conjunction with an airborne invasion fight a hard battle with overwhelming force to punch a hole in Indian defences to link up a ground assault force with the airborne presence in order create a secure supply route.


7. Naval engagement to possibly attempt interdiction of India's oil supply

Whatever the eventual outcome, since we will presumably not be sitting back, gazing at our own navels, though that is a danger in contemporary India, our decision making structure may well find itself somewhat overloaded by a multiplicity of demands. At minimum we need high grade anticipatory political and satellite intelligence (and the ability of conventional forces to react strongly) and a robust PMO that will not be experiencing divided authority. And of course the political courage to take the war into enemy territory and signal the readiness to use nuclear weapons.
