Tri-Valley students can seek transfer or return: US

[size=12pt]A large majority of the Indian students affected by the shutdown of the “sham” Tri-Valley University will have the option to transfer to other US universities or go back home voluntarily “without prejudice” to their future plans, US officials have indicated to their Indian counterparts here.

The discussion held so far hold out the possibility that the bulk of the Indian students would be able to avert the grim possibility of deportation. A voluntary departure will enable them to reapply to established and reputed US institutions at a later time of their choice.

A small number of students, however, will be thoroughly investigated and proceeded against for their suspected complicity in the university’s immigration scam, officials of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have indicated.

Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar, who has held consultations with ICE director John Morton on several issues notably the controversial radio-tagging, has received assurances that the cases will be handled with “good judgement and common sense”.[/size]
