Hyderabad, Feb 3: The Minister for Transport, Mr Botcha Satyanarayana, on Thursday clarified that [b]there was no truth in the news story published by a vernacular daily that an Engineering student G Varalakshmi committed suicide due to non-clearance of her tuition fee reimbursement.[/b]

Speaking to mediapersons in the Secretariat, Mr Satyanarayana said that the 13th Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Mr S V Venkateshwarlu, recorded dying declaration of the engineering student in hospital where she was being treated for burns. [b]According to the recorded dying declaration, Varalakshi caught fire when she lit a gas stove due to gas leak and received burns.[/b]

“We have also enquired with the Vignan Engineering College on the allegations, but it was found that the first year engineering student Varalaxmi has not applied yet for tuition fee reimbursement and scholarship online as the last date for submission of application is February 7”, he added.

Indirectly referring to the Sakshi daily and Sakshi news channel, the Minister said that the particular media house has been telecasting false stories and indulged in mudslinging against the government. The media house was wantonly telecasting such stories with an intention to create insecurity in the public and derive political mileage from it, he regretted.

He also made it clear that the State government was committed to clear all the dues of tuition fee reimbursement and scholarships of the students. He said that a Group of Ministers was set up on tuition fee reimbursement and scholarships today and it would work till 2014. It would also meet once a month to discuss the matters.
