IAF airlifts 224 stranded passengers

Srinagar: The Indian Air Force today airlifted 224 stranded passengers from different parts of the Kashmir division which are cut off due to the snowfall.According to government official, 62 stranded passengers were airlifted from Bandipora and Gurez in an Indian Air force Mi-17 helicopter, 14 from Bandipora to Neeru, three to Baduab, 16 from Neeru to Bandipora and 29 from Baduab to Bandipora.He said the passengers comprising old-age patients, women and children appreciated the Government and IAF for arranging the helicopter service, adding MLA Gurez, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and Divisional Commissioner, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon conveyed their thanks to Group Captain Sreevastav and Air Officer Commanding J&K, Udhampur for making the airlift facility available for the civilians.Meanwhile, 162 passengers were airlifted in IAF AN-32 Kargil Courier, he said, adding 36 passengers were airlifted from Kargil to Jammu, 53 from Jammu to Kargil, 29 from Kargil to Srinagar and 44 from Srinagar to Kargil.
