For Former TVU Students from Consulate General of India
Posted 03.Feb.2011

The Consulate General of India, San Francisco has posted information to help former Tri-Valley University (TVU) students.

Of the twelve (12) items listed, #2 states in part, "ICE has suggested that all students of TVU, wherever they are, should report to the nearest ICE office for instructions. ..." It is not advisable to contact DHS or ICE without first consulting with an attorney. It is important to note that ICE does not grant immigration benefits; ICE's role is enforcement. The role of ICE includes the issuance of notices to appear (NTAs) in removal proceedings. We recommend that former TVU students should obtain qualified immigration legal advice regarding their options.

Item #3 from the Consulate mentions that students can take "voluntary deportation." There is no term like "voluntary deportation." The correct term is "voluntary departure." The word "deportation" in #3 appears to be an error.

TANA's Efforts

The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) has contacted the Murthy Law Firm and requested we approach SEVIS in an attempt to save the affected students from potential detention and/or removal (deportation) and argue that they are victims who should be given the ability to enroll elsewhere. We will continue to provide information and guidance for Tri-Valley students
