Feb. 3: More than a week after the Tri-Valley University immigration fraud came to light, the state government has finally decided to get to the “roots” of the scam in the state.

After TVU issued a public statement that two Indians, Anji Reddy and Ram Krista Karra, both from AP, were behind the whole scam, the government initiated steps to probe into the matter.

According to a statement by Ms Susan Su, the president and founder of TVU, from April 2010, Anji Reddy, who worked in the TVU administrative office, and Ram Krista Karra, who ran a consultant company, cheated students by asking them to make payments to the latter’s account. She said that both had been removed from their jobs.

The NRI cell of the state government has gathered specific information about people and companies from AP involved in the scam. It has also decided to seek the help of the police.

It was found that the university had appointed two consultants for the entire South Asian region and interestingly, both were from Hyderabad. While the first is ABS Consultancy located in Vanasthalipuram, the other is IAEC Consultants Pvt. Ltd. located in Narayanaguda.

The NRI cell also found out that of the total 18 members on the Board of the TVU administration team, six were from Andhra Pradesh.

The consultant firm IAEC, meanwhile, denied any links with TVU. “Though the TVU website refers our name for admissions, we have nothing to do with that. They are using our name illegally without our permission,” said Mr Madhukar Reddy, MD, IAEC.

Educational consultants said that low fee structure and work permit from Day-1 had lured many students from Andhra Pradesh to opt for TVU.

“Though several students approached us for admissions in TVU, we discouraged them saying it was not accredited and approved in US. We have done admission processing for only one girl in TVU, that too on the pressure of her parents,” said Mr Phani Kumar of Allbright Consultancy.

Some agents said several TVU students were not originally students of that university but had taken a transfer to TVU lured by its low fee structure and online courses.
