bongule Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 [size=12pt]Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday ruled out retiring from competitive cricket and said he was still hoping to play in the Indian Premier League if an opportunity came his way in the future.A day after speculation about his retirement from all forms of cricket did the rounds, he said it was a classic case of misunderstanding and he was “shocked and disappointed” to see how his comments were misinterpreted by the media.“After learning that something was misunderstood during the interview, I had sent a rejoinder and said if I don’t get to play IPL, I will not be participating in any forms of domestic cricket. But if I do get an opportunity to play IPL, I will play domestic cricket to stay fit,” Ganguly said in an interview here.Reiterating that he has not called it quits from domestic cricket, Ganguly said the media blew his remarks out of proportion and in no point of time during the interview he has mentioned about his complete retirement from the game. “It was completely misunderstood. It was in a sequence of questions I had said that I would not play domestic cricket if I don’t play in IPL. It was said in a different perspective completely,” the former Indian captain said.‘Team fearless, similar to 2003’Ganguly sees a lot of similarity between India’s 2003 and 2011 World Cup squad and said just like eight year ago, the present outfit is also fearless and has a strong batting line-up which makes them one of the title contenders. Ganguly feels with such a combination at its disposal, India has the potential to make it count in cricket’s showpiece event.“Like 2003, this time also we are in the right frame of mind, we have a settled side which has been doing well for sometime now. The team is equally good and strong and have the potential to go all the way,” Ganguly said. “We have a very strong batting line-up with a lot of match-winners in the side.
