katharnak Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 NEW DELHI: With 81.47 million tonnes, the country’s wheat production is expected to touch an all time high. The output of the foodgrain also expected to rise by more than 6 per cent reaching 232.07 million tonnes for 2010-11.With this bumper growth in harvest the government has projected 8.6 percent growth in the economy of the country. "Higher cotton production will help in bringing down the prices of fibres, which have gone very high, whereas in case of wheat and pulses there is already low inflation. Still, a higher production is very good sign for the country," said, D K Joshi, Principal Economist, Crisil. The 2009 crop year recorded the wheat output at 80.71 million tonnes whereas the overall foodgrain production was recorded at 218.2 million tonnes. The projected figures for the crop year 2010-11 indicate an increase in the overall output as compared to last years, showing a booming agricultural growth.
