Android coming to an unnamed U.S. vehicle this year

This year, the world's leading mobile operating system will be taking one step closer to total domination with the reported introduction of Android into an OEM vehicle. Google's mobile OS is already being incorporated into car infotainment and telematic touchscreen systems across multiple manufacturers, but now automakers are strolling down the Android path to bring over 200,000 consumer friendly apps to the dashboards. The two major suppliers of these units are Magneti Marelli, who partnered with Accenture in the development of its Android integrated systems, and Continental AG, a German automotive supplier, that's calling its Linux-based technology AutoLinQ. Both plan to offer dedicated built-in Android app stores to consumers. No word yet on being able to tether your Android smartphone to these systems, despite your (and ours) wishes. Look out for these units to start rolling out into production vehicles sometime in the second half of 2011.
