New Delhi, Feb 25 (TNN): Obviously encouraged by pre-poll surveys showing the United Democratic Alliance (UPA) Government, led by the Congress, in good stead, the All India Congress Committee president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, exuded confidence of the UPA emerging victorious from the ensuing elections.

Mrs Gandhi, while addressing the Congress members of  Parliament here, however, cautioned them against indulging in “factional fights.” She was addressing party MPs in the last meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party of 14th Lok Sabha.

“If factionalism (in the party) comes an end, the Congress will encounter no problem,” she pointed out, hinting that the scourge may hurt the party’s prospects.

She complimented the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh for successfully managing the coalition Government. It was now the turn of the members of Parliament to spread the achievements of the UPA Government among the people. The External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, came in for special praise for his diplomatic skills.

Mrs Gandhi is understood to warned that any dissidence in the party would be viewed seriously. The party leadership, she reportedly said, would take all factors into consideration before deciding either to grant or deny the party ticket to one or the other.
