JP for debate on Telangana

[size=12pt]Lok Satta Party chief Jayaprakash Narayan has asked the Congress to allow a comprehensive debate on the Telangana issue to end the ongoing stalemate and evolve an amicable resolution.

Advising the ruling party to stop ‘shadow boxing' on the issue and take concrete steps to resolve the imbroglio, Dr. Jayaprakash said, “There is a problem and it is an emotional one. But the Assembly has not taken up a thorough debate on the issue so far.”

Speaking to reporters on the Assembly premises on Monday, the Lok Satta Party president criticised the government for convening the session merely to “fulfil certain Constitutional obligations and not concentrating on the basics.”

The debate revolving around Telangana was one such sensitive issue and any further delay in resolving it was “dangerous” as it was already affecting lives of lakhs of people.

Mere pretence

Mere pretence that there was no problem on the Telangana count would not serve the purpose. The ruling party and the main Opposition Telugu Desam should take the responsibility and face the reality with courage. “Allow the members to speak and let the government come out with its side,” he said.

Urging the ruling party not to “play with lives of the people” by delaying a solution, Dr. Jayaprakash said the United Progressive Alliance government which was facing charges of corruption and simultaneous facing agitation on regional issues might not come to power after the next elections. “But those who succeed the present government may not take a decision till an amicable solution is evolved at the State level,” he said.

Economy affected

The State's economy was adversely affected and it would further deteriorate if the government did not change its “indifferent attitude”, he said.[/size]
