Fare rise unexpected in Railway Budget

NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways is not expected bring in major changes in passenger fares in the Rail Budget. It is expected to launch 100 new trains. The Rail Budget 2011-12, is expected to be presented in Lok Sabha on February 25.

The Railway Budget is expected to have proposals for socially desirable projects in backward regions besides concentrating on gauge conversion and doubling of lines. The Budget is also likely to lay emphasis on the installation of safety related equipment such as train protection warning system (TPWS) and anti-collision device (ACD) at some of the routes for the safety aspects.

The Railways is also planning to introduce an action plan to tackle the terror attacks situation. The Budget proposals is expected to talk about the security up-gradation at stations, recruitment of RPF personnel, deployment of security forces at important trains and close coordination with state governments.

The Railways is also expected to set a target for increasing production target of wagons, coaches and locomotives for the 2011-12 fiscal.
