hostname:portname:instance

hostname: ante you can use an alias of the server or the ip address of the server (on which Oracle DB is installed).

Portname: database ki oka service vuntundi adi ee port use cheyyalo Database engine ni install chese time lo specify                  chestaru .... AIX operating system ayithe kanaka /etc/services file lo oka entry vuntundi ....

Instance:  Database Engine ni install chesina tarvatha manam instances create chestam... nuvvu connect avvali anukunna instance edaithe adi... usually, on unix based servers it will be a username    (naku Windows environmane pina idea ledu)

In general to connect to any database, you will need database name also... so, you have to identify correct syntax for the connection string.

Along with the above mentioned ones, you may need more details for authentication ...

Good Luck
