Deletedid1 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 CHITRADURGA: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa assured of sanctioning Rs.10 crore for the one mega Watt solar power unit at the Kudapura campus (Challakere) of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) which was dedicated to the nation on Saturday.Speaking after the inauguration Yeddyurappa said that the money would be allocated soon.The CM said that Challakere will be the future science city of which the whole nation would be proud of. He termed the Challakere campus of IISc as the largest campus with a voluminous landscape and having enough resources to become a global science hotspot.'In 21st century when the world is looking at India, specialised institutions such as IISc should work to enhance the knowledge of younger generation, the future of the country,' he said.It is a is a worthy deed to inaugurate the new campus and the Talent Development Centre (TDC) on the eve of the National Science Day (February 28, also the birthday of Sir CV Raman), the CM said.It may be recalled that the CM in 2009 sanctioned 1,500 acres for setting up the second campus of the IISc.The institution which would soon be surrounded by other eminent institutions of strategic importance, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) coming up in 4,250 acres.Lauding the efforts of JN Tata and erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Yeddyurappa said that the greatest science institute in the country has got the service of many renown scientists such as GN Ramachandra, Vikram Sarabhai and Dr Brahma Prakash who have created their own niche in the field of science.He called upon the IISc scientists to do extensive research in the field of energy and help improve the situation of farmers.Topics:BS Yeddyurappa, IISc, solar power unit
