In a bid to counter the aggressive moves of Telangana protagonists within the party, the TDP Seemandhra leaders have been advising their boss N Chandrababu Naidu to declare a clear policy in favour of united Andhra Pradesh so that the party can save its face in Rayalaseema and coastal regions.

“The choice is yours. If you take Samaikyandhra stand, the party will get 220 seats, including at least 20-25 seats in Telangana. But if you decide to support Telangana, the party may not get more than 75 seats in all. In any case, the TRS will sweep Telangana. At least, we need to save our seats in Seemandhra,” they are believed to have told Naidu.

Their calculation is that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will have a complete sway over the constituencies where Telangana sentiment is strong. Quoting a recent survey, they said it could be between 70 and 75 seats where TDP has no chance of making inroads even if it takes a clear pro-Telangana stand. The Telangana sentiment is not uniformly spread across the region and, particularly in Hyderabad, its impact is minimal.

Against this backdrop, if the TDP takes a bold stand and supports the integrated state it will stand to gain substantially in Seemandhra region. They warn that the party would have to suffer a double tragedy and lose heavily across the state if the present ambiguous stand continues.
