Considering Apple has regularly increased the memory of the iPhone with the last version being an exception. A 64GB version is expected.

The iPhone 4's camera boasts of Omnivision's BSI technology that raised the bar with its superior image quality. Rumour mills are now abuzz about Apple employing Sony's 8-megapixel sensors in the camera of the iPhone 5.

The newly launched A5 dual core processor on the iPad 2 is expected to make an appearance on the iPhone 5. This would mean the iPhone would gain more horse power with it going head on with the Android based competition employing Nvidia's Tegra 2 processors.

The A5 processor is touted to give the iPad a 9x graphical boost over its predecessor. Similar performance bumps would be viable on the iPhone with the sweetness of the Retina display.

Apple has unveiled an HD adapter for the iPad 2 which allows the device to output a mirror image of whatever is on its screen to a TV or a projector. This technology could easily make an appearance on the iPhone 5 as mirror display via HDMI. The iPhone 4 already outputs HD via a VGA cable.

With a major enhancement in feature set expected, the battery life will also need improvement. Expecting an overall improvement in battery life will not be pushing it. Apple has already shown its supremacy in the area by keeping the battery life of the iPad 2 same, while increasing the processing power and decreasing the size.

Call reception has been the bane of the iPhone ever since its launch. Last year's innovative antenna design backfired and led to antenna gate. Apple has already improved on the antenna design in the Verizon iPhone 4 and further improvements are expected.

With every iteration of the iPhone we have seen a new edition of the iOS and with the launch of the iPhone 5 one expects the iOS 5.This may also result in interface improvements that raise the bar further for other phones to compete with. We could see multi touch gestures for controlling menus/multitasking in iOS 5.

Steve Jobs has envisioned enhanced voice capabilities in Apple devices. With the iPhone 5 one might expect some enhancements, which would improve the messaging capabilities of the device through voice control. Knowing well that Android already does it pretty well may give it a further boost.

The ubiquitous white of Apple seen on all other devices of the company is still not available. Though famously announced, it was never delivered. We may see a white iPhone 5 at launch just like the iPad 2.

Facetime was one of the touted features of the iPhone 4, but it only works over a Wi-Fi connection. Verizon already has solid LTE network and AT&T is also coming up with their 4G network. One can expect a minimum capability of Facetime over a 3G network.

Recent beta versions of iOS 4.3 have suggested that Apple plan to eliminate the home button with gestures, so far with the iPad 2 the home button remains, but we might not see it on the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 to have aluminum back, new antenna design

According to a Chinese source, Apple is changing the rear part of iPhone 5 to aluminum which was used for first iPhone’s instead of glass or might adopt the design similar to iPod touch 4G, after facing lots of issues with white paint and scratches on rear glass surface, reported Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.
Decision to design iPhone 5 similar to iPod touch instead of using glass was arrived after receiving number of complaints. Apple seems to stop damages from scratching, issues after painting it white (for white iPhone 5), weight of glass and want to make it more durable instead.Antenna will be designed just behind Apple Logo so that cellular and Wi-Fi signal can penetrate easily. Side exposed steel antennas seem to be abandoned, as designed in iPhone 4.
We’re a bit skeptical of this report.  While Wifi and GPS antennas could shoot out the Apple logo in the back, such a design wouldn’t be great for 3G reception, something that is a high priority for Apple.
