It all started in a bar on Woodward Ave  right next to the FOX theaters very famous. The bar is still there and is still running.

It was because of two cops.. who shot two random guys in the bar who happened to be black and then the rest  is history...

antha varaku telusu..........at that time NY wanted another replacement as it could not handle the sea traffic. Detroit was the choice then as it was close to both USA and Canada. But due to the riots they diverted the traffic to Chicago. But the diversion never came back bcoz the city was in fire for 3 weeks literally. We have some pics in our library which were taken from the same place during the riots. Visit it if you ever go to Detroit. WSU library (Purdy Kresge Library) and the Detroit Public Library both are opposite to each other...!!
