The vandalism on the tank bund and demolition of statues of Telugu cultural icons by the Telangana activists on Thursday gave a new lease of life for the Seemandhra leaders, who have rightly used the opportunity to run down the Telangana movement.

For the first time, the Telangana leaders, including revolutionary singer Gaddar and political JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram, had to go on the defensive, as the Seemandhra leaders stepped up the attack on the pro-Telangana agitation. After keeping lull for the last few months, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal raised his voice strongly, making a scathing attack on the Telangana protagonists, saying the Thursday incident was an indication to the kind of anarchy that was going to prevail in Hyderabad if Telangana state was granted. β€œThe capital city would go into the hands of anti-national, anti-social, fascist and communal forces,” he argued.

More or less similar comments were made by Rayalaseema leaders like Payyavula Kesav and S Sailajanath. They have given the impression that there is no enlightened and saner leadership in Telangana and that they have no capabilities to rule a state with peace and stability.

The media, too, carried stories and debates all through Friday projecting the Telangana movement in a bad light. And according to sources, the intelligence department, too, has sent dangerous reports to the Centre on the prospective situation in the Telangana region.

With the mindless acts of some goons, the entire Telangana movement has come back to the crossroads!
