HYDERABAD: The long boycott of the Legislative Assembly and Council by Congress MLAs and MLCs from the Telangana region seems to have worked with the party high command which has decided to send an emissary here to convince them of the need to end the boycott.
The emissary, senior leader and AP coordinator PJ Kurien, will shortly have a meeting with the Telangana ministers, MLAs and MLCs here and convey to them the high command’s thinking on the issue of Telangana.
According to party sources, Kurien is expected to arrive in the city either tomorrow evening or on Monday morning.
Boycott of the budget session, Legislative Council elections under the MLAs quota and other things are likely to be discussed at the meeting which will take place at the Lake View Guest House on March 14. PCC president D Srinivas will also attend the meeting. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy plans to host dinner for Kurien.
It may be recalled that the PCC president had advised his party Telangana MLAs and MLCs on a couple of occasions to end the boycott but in vain.
The legislators made it clear that they would think of attending the session only if the Congress central leadership deputed a representative to Hyderabad to hold talks with them.
“We will not be able to move in our constituencies in the present situation and people will be angry with us if we decide to attend the session without securing any assurance (on T issue) or having talks with the party high command. Besides, it is not proper for us to end the boycott at a time when fellow MPs too boycotting Parliament’s budget session. Telangana TDP MLAs too have decided to boycott the Assembly session. We will all (Telangana ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs) have a meeting shortly to decide our course of action,” they told the PCC chief.
