V r 1 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 India has been one great country that also boasts of having the world’s largest democracy, though this seems good on the paper the inside truth is there are many who use the name of democracy and come out with some of the most dastardly acts that will put this big nation to shame. Honest as it may sound, it must also be said that nothing really changes in this nation and the system has been the same ever since India has got independence. A major issue of this system failure is the induction of criminals and those with controversial backgrounds into the parliament and making them as ministers and MLAs. Though time and again, it is reiterated in the election manifesto that only those with clean chit are given the party ticket, in reality this happens to be a complete hoax and more than half of them have got some really notorious cases in the rounds. A perfect example for that is now being seen with the latest batch of new joinees who are better known as celebrities first, leaders next. They are none other than Sanjay Dutt, Md Azharuddin, Nandamuri Balakrishna. Checking their profiles, one gets a feeling that we are talking about someone who is a criminal, another one who involved in match fixing and last but not the least, a man who has involved in shooting incidents. It is being said by many that these three men have got a rather questionable background and having them walking the red carpet and eventually take up the membership of a political party and later on contest for the elections is something that is not going down well with many. If this be the true face of democracy then one can imagine the fate of those common people whose lives depend on the whimsical decisions of these leaders. On the other hand, there are those who have been questioning the alternative to democracy and it is realized that to handle such an enormous country with literally one billion plus people, it gets difficult for any system to continue. So the most sensible solution for this is being looked at as the right choice of selecting leaders and before that, ensuring that the voting is done and not letting the vote get rigged. However, the standards of service oriented individuals must increase in size and someone who really feels that atleast a wee bit of difference can be made in the society with his/her efforts should look at the political stream. For now, the idea of the three individuals mentioned seems to be on a rather imperative mode and they need to pull off with something sensible and useful to wash away their negative images.
