The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has plunged into a political crisis over cross-voting issue with three of its tainted legislators—E Ravinder Reddy, K Vidyasagar Rao and Kaveti Sammaiah—resigning on Saturday on moral grounds.

All the three MLAs, facing allegations of defying the party’s diktat and voting in favour of the ruling Congress in the recent elections to the Legislative Council, sent in their resignation letters to the party President K Chandrasekhar Rao.

All of them, however, denied the charge of cross-voting and said their conscience was clear. “If it is proved that I have ditched my party, I will quit active politics. I have left the decision to the party leadership,” said a tense-looking Ravinder Reddy who personally handed over the letter to KCR and walked out of the party’s Politburo meeting.

Sammaiah  stayed away from the meeting but sent in his resignation letter through his son while Vidayasagar Rao personally handed over his letter to the party leadership. All the three legislators maintained the same line of defence.

“We have made many sacrifices for the party and our commitment to Telangana cause cannot be questioned. How can we stoop down to such a level,” countered Ravinder Reddy.

The resignations came in the backdrop of widespread condemnation over the cross-voting by three of the 11 TRS MLAs in favour of Congress candidate Ranga Reddy. KCR drew flak from all sides for failing to keep his house in order.
