The GHMC elections held on November 23rd clearly showed the indifference of Hyderabad voters. After days of frantic campaigning, allegations and promises by major political parties, the moment of truth turned out to be an anti-climax. Only 46% voter turnout was registered yesterday in the elections held at 150 divisions in the city. Barring few untoward incidents like liquor sale, scuffle between TDP, BJP and Congress, the polls remained largely peaceful. However, Congress is confident of its win in the elections and believes that it would win in 65-70 divisions in the city. While CM, K.Rosaiah blamed the cold weather to the low voter turnout and TDP blamed the Election Commission’s schedule, the truth is the voters seem to have lost trust on thepolitical parties . Moreover, for many people it had come as an extended weekend. The counting of the votes will begin on November 26th. It will be interesting to see if the war of words between Rosaiah and Chandrababu Naidu has rescued their parties or not!
