“How can I deserve. I’m not a businessman to sit in business class”

We all know how Ministers and MLAs command attention, respect and honor from the officers in government organizations. They even complain for not attending them properly with VVIP treatment. But something contrary was seen today in Air India flight from Tirupathi to Hyderabad. And the man in discussion is Nadendla Manohar.

Nadendla Manohar, the Speaker of AP state assembly boarded the Air India flight at Renigunta Airport in Tirupathi and 2:45PM, along with his family members. He sat in his Economy Class seats since the tickets were booked by him, it being a personal pilgrim trip. Yes, the Speaker didn’t bother to show off his status by booking Business Class Tickets.

Indeed, the flight is not full and the Business Class seats are almost vacant. Noticing that the man on board is Speaker of AP State Legislative Assembly, the flight attendants and Ground Duty Officer came running towards him asking to occupy Business Class Seats. The Speaker has shown resistance and didn’t jump into those seats instantly. He conveyed them, “I booked only Economy Class”.

Officer said, “We know sir. But you deserve to sit in Business Class and the seats are also vacant”.

Speaker replied, “How can I deserve. I’m not a businessman to sit in business class”.

Officers kept white face but still continued requesting him.

Speaker said, “I love Economy and I encourage Economy living. People’s representatives and the Speaker who addresses the representatives in House should stand as example for citizens. Business Class is meant for big Business Firms those may be used for encouraging their employees by offering them some luxury. I’m a common man’s representative and the Speaker for such representatives. I’m not here to show off any luxurious status”.

Listening to this the officers pleased and made last request with a sentiment, “Sir hats off to you. We understand your opinions. But this is our sincere request. Air India honors the right men. You are the right one for saying all this. Please don’t ignore our honor for you and your family. We don’t force you next time. But please consider us this time”.

Only with that sentiment, Nadendla Manohar, his wife and son moved to Business Class.

It’s in fact stunning to see such a politician in India!!!
