Looks like Andhra Jyothy management is desperate to get high TRP ratings to its newly-launched television channel ABN-Andhra Jyothy, which is now at the bottom of the channel list and that it would go to any extent to get the viewership.

On Tuesday night, ABN channel organised a live debate with senior Congress leader Palwai Goverdhan Reddy, advocate Jandhyala Ravishankar and Progressive Women’s Organisation president Jhansi on the issue of paternity dispute involving Governor N D Tiwari. During the Goverdhan Reddy and Ravishankar were completely defending the Governor saying he had no extra marital affair with Ujjwala and that she was an “unchaste woman,” trying to tarnish the image of Tiwari for monetary gains. On the other hand, Jhansi took strong objection to them suspecting the character of Ujjwala and Governor should prove his innocence by agreeing for a DNA test.

Anchor Rani Rudrama was seen provoking Jhansi and that led to strong argument between the POW leader and Ravishankar (who is incidentally the Governor’s counsel). Tempers ran high and both the participants in the debate shouted at each other in abusive language. At one stage, both Jhansi and Ravishankar indulged in fisticuffs, slapping each other and pulling each other’s hair, as if it was a street fight. Rudrama had to get up from her seat to pacify them and everything was taking place in live, much to the surprising of the viewers. It was only then that the channel people had to give a break by swiftly shifting to the advertisement.

First place, the moderator should have a lot of patience and the capacity to control the participants. If that is not possible, she should immediately announce the break to cool them down. Instead, she allowed the ugly scenes to be telecast for a while, thinking that it would draw more viewers. What a pity?
