ndian Police Service officer K C Surendra Babu, who was killed in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Bihar's Munger district, was cremated with full police honours at Nallagandla in his home state Andhra Pradesh on Friday afternoon.

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) naxalites blasted with landmines the vehicle in which Surendra Babu and six other policemen were travelling in the Lakshmipur forests near Bhimbandh on January 5.

The IPS officer, along with his team, was returning after conducting combing operations against naxalites, who had looted five weapons from the Kajra railway station a day earlier.

His body was brought to the city on Thursday night.

He is survived by wife Lakshmi Devi, who is a civil assistant surgeon in Bihar, and four-year-old daughter K Sushmita.

Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy paid his respects to the slain officer at the residence of Babu's father, K C Naik, at the [size=8pt][font=arial black][color=red]Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited Colony at Ramachandrapuram[/color][/font][/size], on the city outskirts, where the body was kept before cremation.
