At a time when the political atmosphere in Telangana is already surcharged, the student Joint Action Committee has added further fuel to the fire. It has declared that it will not allow Seemandhra students to come to Hyderabad for pursuing studies.

"Not a single Seemandhra student will be allowed to step into the city. We are also warning the educational institutions here not to give admissions to non-Telangana students," the Student JAC said.

It also warned that its members would physically prevent the students from other regions from taking admissions in Hyderabad.

Such provocative statements are bound to vitiate the atmosphere further and create enmity and discord in an already volatile state.

The situation has come to such a pass because of the sabre-rattling and strident posturing by the politicians of the region. There can be no objection for a political fight to achieve the statehood goal as long as it is carried out within the limits of democratic framework.

If the debate crosses the limits of decency and dignity, there is every danger that the Telangana movement may spin out of control, creating social unrest.
