Who was responsible for the Congress party coming to power for the second successive term in the state in 2009?

Ask YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy; he says it was because of the hard work done by his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and his welfare and developmental programmes. He has, in fact, gone a step ahead and said the Congress was in power in the Centre only because of his father.

But Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao has a different argument. He said the Congress had come back to power for the second time in the state because of Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi. It was because the PRP had split the opposition vote did the Congress come to power with a narrow margin, he argued.

“If YSR had so much charisma, why did the party lose twice in the past when he was leading the PCC? And if the party had come to power for the second time in 2009 because of YSR’s schemes, why did the party got only 155 seats, compared to 186 in 2004? If at all the party had won, it was because of Chiranjeevi’s factor and Sonia Gandhi’s leadership,” VHR said
