KARIMNAGAR: The ambitious Sripada Yellampalli Project (SYP) across river Godavari in Yellampalli village of Ramagundam mandal would be completed within one year, said Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah. The Minister visited Yellampalli project site along with Robert Charles Cotton, grandson of Sir Arthur Cotton, on Thursday and inspected the progress of the project. Projects over Godavari The Minister explained to the Cotton couple about the execution of various projects across the Godavari and the importance of Yellampalli project in the region. The SYP is designed to provide irrigation to 2 lakh acres in the upland regions and provide about 6.5 tmc of water to the NTPC power plant in Ramagundam. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the project is nearing completion and would be dedicated to nation within one year. He said water would be lifted to a height of 1150 feet from the project to meet the irrigation needs in the upland regions. With regard to the ongoing projects on the Godavari, the Minister said that the Devadula first phase project is through and tenders have been called for the Kanthalapalli barrage. He said the State expects to generate 450 MWs of power from Kanthalapalli project and another 300 MWs of power from the Dummagudem project. Polavaram project would be completed by the year 2014, he said. Robert C Cotton said he is thrilled to visit the project site and that he would remember these memories throughout his life. He said that the completion of projects would transform the State on all fronts. He was thankful to former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for taking inspiration from his grandfather Sir Arthur Cotton and for launching ‘Jalayagnam’. Hindu Academy president Yarlagadda Laxmiprasad, Joint Collector Ch Vijay Mohan, SYP SE Satyanand and others were also present.

The project has issues concerned with the Maharashtra border and making it a NATIONAL project. I am positive that if YSR was still alive, this would have been taken shape at a much faster pace. Pranahita-Chevella works to face delay Monday, 25 May, 2009 The recent decision of the Andhra Pradesh Government to seek 'National Project' status for the Rs 38,000 crore Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi (PCSS) project in Andhra Pradesh is expected to further delay the execution of the project. An irrigation facility is expected to be considered a National Project only when the agency concerned gets different kinds of clearances for the given project, a process that takes a lot of time. The PCSS still being at the investigative stage, the state government has to obtain feasibility clearance as soon as possible. Though Rs six crore has been released as mobilisation advance, the drawings and designs of the project are yet to be submitted. So far, only the 'hydraulic particulars' of a 15 km gravity canal and line on field in package two have been approved. Besides, the reservoir of the PCSS barrage will invade on Maharashtra territory that covers a few habitations. Land acquisition for the barrage and canals is likely to be a part of the major hurdle for the project in near future. Though a DPR on the extent of land to be acquired has been worked out, the rate of compensation has not been finalised. Please shed me some light on the Singoor project.

The surprise to me is that why these MLAs or MPs have not mentioned these items.
