Three Water Board directors found flush with 'wealth'

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigators on Wednesday conducted searches on properties of three Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials in the city and unearthed Rs 10 crore worth assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

ACB personnel conducted simultaneous searches on the offices and residences of Water Board directors C V Rambaba, P Manohar Babu and chief general manager G Surya Rao in the city.

Rambaba’s assets include a three-storied house at Aurora Colony in Banjara Hills, two plots in Ranga Reddy district, a flat at Pavani Prestige Apartments in Nellore and 10 acres of agricultural land at Mutkur in Nellore district, all worth Rs 60 lakh. He was also found to be in possession of Rs 90,000 cash, 400 grams of gold worth Rs four lakhs, bank balance to the tune of Rs 17 lakh, Rs 4.30 lakh investments in LIC, two cars (a Hundai Accent & a Tata Indica), a Honda Activa and household articles worth Rs six lakh.

“The market value of Rambaba’s properties could be over Rs 2.50 crore,” an official release issued here

said. In Manohar Babu’s case, ACB personnel found he had a three-storied house at Aurora colony, Rd No.3, Banjara Hills, a four-storied building in a plot of 1,000 square yards at Ayyappa Society, Madhapur worth Rs 1.70 crore.

They also found 400 grams gold worth Rs 3.50 lakh, two cars (a Chevrolet Spark and a Hundai Verna), a Hero Honda Unicorn motorcycle, all worth Rs 11 lakh and household articles worth Rs five lakh. The market value of his assets would be about Rs four crore, the release added.

G Surya Rao was found to be in possession of a two-storied house at Padmasai colony, East Marredpally, 17 house plots in and around the city and 20 acres of agricultural land in Keesara mandal of Ranga Reddy district, all worth Rs 1.89 crore.

The ACB also found he was in possession of 300 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs three lakh, a Tata Indica worth Rs four lakh and household articles worth Rs 10 lakh. The market value of his properties would be about Rs five crore.

The ACB officials were yet to open their bank lockers. They would be arrested and produced before the special judge for ACB cases, Hyderabad.
