thunderstorm369 Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 The main opposition party – Telugu Desam – is the worst affected party in the State because of its double stand on the Telangana issue. The TD had gone for the 2009 general elections promising Telangana State. Its manifesto is a public document and all through the campaign in Telangana, the TD chief, N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana TD leaders have promised separate State if the Grand Alliance is voted to power. The Grand Alliance consisted of TD, TRS, CPI and CPI-M. Though the CPI-M was not ready for Telangana State, it had aligned with the other parties only to defeat the Congress. After the elections, the TD continued to raise its voice for Telangana. On several occasions, Chandrababu Naidu blamed the Congress and Sonia Gandhi for remaining silent on Telangana issue. He had even promised to support the Congress if it tabled Telangana bill in the Assembly and Parliament. When the Chief Minister, K Rosaiah, held the all-party meeting, the TD supported the Telangana issue and reiterated that it would support the Telangana bill both in the Assembly and Parliament. But, when the UPA government had taken the decision after a day-long deliberations and reviews, the TD is going back on the issue. It says the Congress high command / UPA government did not consult the party and took unilateral decision. Having promised Telangana in its manifesto and having repeatedly spoke in favour of Telanagana and having assured the government of its support for Telanagana bill, the TD now is blaming Congress for not consulting the party. Unfortunately people do not believe the TD these days. Its reputation is at stake now and the party leaders are prepared to sacrifice to find a safe exit for the party from the present crisis. It is to be seen whether the party would be able to come out of this crisis or would get crushed in the tussle for its faulty mistakes. http://www.andhralekha.com/news/11-22894-Caught%20on%20the%20wrong%20side,%20TD%20tries%20to%20save%20its%20face
