Technikfreak Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 A protest by about 100 people that delayed the arrival of the Olympic torch by about an hour didn't dampen the spirits of thousands gathered outside Toronto's city hall Thursday evening to greet the flame. The protesters, who rang bells, drummed and chanted "No Olympics on Stolen Native Land," took over one intersection before part of the group split off to block another intersection. As the torch finally rounded Queen Street into Nathan Phillips Square, people banged tambourines, waved flags and sang O Canada. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, center, is escorted by police while getting ready to run with the Olympic flame, as the Vancouver Olympic torch relay passes through downtown Toronto on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. The flame was rerouted after a protest closed down Yonge Street.
