On Oct 8th , Pooja suffered a massive neurological stroke due to blood clot in the brain and this led to paralysis of left leg, hand and face. She is now undergoing various tests at a hospital in Connecticut. The doctors told the family that she needs to undergo acute rehab immediately to recover fully from the paralysis. She came from India in 2009 to pursue MBA at Brandeis University in Boston. She graduated in the summer and was able to find a coop/intern job at EMC. Unfortunately, being a coop at EMC, she did not qualify for a medical benefit from the company. She has medical insurance from India but it does not cover rehab. Acute rehab would cost about $80,000. We are trying to raise money fast as time is of essence to get her into an acute rehab facility. The funds raised will also be used for her treatment post rehab as she will be out of job for a few months. Her parents and family cannot come up with this kind of money required at such short notice. Any help is much appreciated. You can donate online through this website by clicking "Donate" or mail your donations directly to: Hima Bindhu Mavilla 15 Poppyfield Ln Rancho Santa Margarita, CA - 92688 For Wire Transfers Please use the below details. The doctors did a CT scan to check if there was one more stroke. There was no stroke but there is swelling in her brain which is causing the headache. They are giving her painkillers. The physical therapy is going good. She took couple of steps yesterday and today with the help of nurses was able to walk out of the room and into the corridor. She is trying very hard to move her hand. She is able to get some sleep today.

Murari Posted October 19, 2011 Author Report Posted October 19, 2011 October 18th, 2011 Pooja is doing good she is still in the hospital as of now. We are still working on the rehab situation with the hospital and the social worker. Her parents landed in US on Sunday and are with her right now, which is keeping her in high spirits. The doctors are trying a combination of new medicines and these are working. The headaches have reduced and giving her more time to concentrate on her physical therapy. She is working very hard to build some tone in her arm and leg. All her much awaited test results came negative leaving the question ..what caused the clot in the brain? unanswered. We will try to update the status of Pooja's condition more often from now. We would like to thank everyone in person for all your prayers and contributions
