IT staffs seek UT status for Hyderabad

Tension prevai led at Hitec City in Madhapur after activists of Telugu Saanketika Nipunula Vedika (TSNV) were taken into police custody when they were staging a rally demanding Union Territory (UT) status for Hyderabad if a separate Telangana State is formed. About 300 employees, mostly software professionals working in various MNCs at Hitec City, took part in the rally organized by TDP leader Palem Srikanth Reddy with the slogan, `Save Hyderabad, Save IT Companies’.

Addressing the crowd, Srikanth Reddy, president of TSNV, said a number of IT and ITES companies were afraid to carry on with their business activities in the city in the midst of the agitations for a separate Telangana. “After the Centre announced that it would initiate the process of separate Telangana state, a number of IT and ITES companies are rethinking on continuing their activities in Hyderabad,’’ he said and demanded that Union Territory status be given to Hyderabad if separate Telangana is formed. He appealed to all political parties to develop the city for providing more jobs to unemployed youth.

Later, the demonstrators formed into a human chain holding placards of `Save Hyderabad, Save IT companies’. There were tense moments when a few TRS workers descended on the scene and began arguing that Hyderabad was part of Telangana. Soon, police forces took into custody some of the agitators including Srikanth Reddy who were driven to the Madhapur police station.
