ROUDRAM Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 NEW DELHI: Around 120 officers of the army and paramilitary forces are expected to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) by the end of next year through a 'limited' departmental examination. These officers will be in addition to the 150 inducted into the IPS through regular civil services examination. A notification for the 'limited' examination is expected to be brought out by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) soon. Faced with an acute shortage of IPS officers, the home ministry had last year decided to hire officers through the limited examination. Any officer belonging to the army and paramilitary forces, having served for a minimum of five years and below 35 years of age will be eligible to appear in this examination. At present, IPS officers are recruited either through civil service examination conducted by the UPSC or are promoted from state police services. Sources said these officers would be hired in two batches of 60 each. The first examination is expected to be held in March 2012.
