k2s Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011
It was very tough day at office, with 99.3F I was shivering at work. The clock ticked 12:45PM and I was dead hungry. Our canteen was known for its poor quality of vegetarian lunch and I had no option but to stay hungry or go out. I pushed few of my colleagues and unfortunately they were occupied. Having left with no options, I walked out just like rabbit looking for carrots, I was searching for hotels that provide good quality food. Meanwhile I gave a ring to few of my friends who were working around HiTech city. None of them had some time to kill with me. It didn't take much time for me to figure out that I met with luck. I saw one of my friends entering into a restaurant, she was with 4 more friends, probably colleagues. Few plans rolled on my head to surprise her. I intentionally stayed at restaurant door for 5 mins, planned my order, rehearsed few dialogues and finally stepped in. Until I finalized the plan, I didn't realize that I was typical male chauvinistic to wait until the girl talk to me. Would I loose my guts and glory if I talk to her first? With in a second I changed my plan and when I was turning to my right to look for her in restaurant, she showed up from no where. She was on mobile. I expressed surprise as if I have seen her there for first time, we exchanged looks, understood that her coming to me was accidental. She smiled at me and both of us started walking out of restaurant. She was looking for someone, but for whom? I could not drag her to conversation as she was on phone and I was not bothered. Semi-curiously, my eyes were staring at the entrance gate and without my control, the stare turned to gaze on a girl in her early twenties, in light black jeans, thick cement T-shirt, with loose hair dancing on her shoulder. I could not dare to talk to her. By the time I came to my normal senses, my friend was not seen around me. I stepped back into restaurant again. I found my friend sitting with her friends, they were 6 in number occupying an 8 seater table. I waved my hand to her, she came to me and we exchanged few words and I pulled chair on other table. She left to her table. I was flipping the Menu, to my surprise she came back and offered me that I could join their team. Without any second thought, I went to their table, introduced myself. Other than my friend and I, there were 3 men and 2 ladies in the team. Weekend attire, my grooming and my gloomy sick face didn't impress the team and I contended with short conversations with my friend. The team was talking, I sunk my head into the latest tweets on mobile and was laughing within myself. I over heard female voice saying "His face was dumb." Wow, a girl speaking about a dumb guy, as it always used to be vice versa, my ears turned attention to their conversation. The next words were "She slapped him with her words." My curiosity grew and I murmured to my friend about the lunch. My friend replied "She told our boss to F**k off and resigned her job. We are celebrating her resignation." Though the words sounded rude, I replied "Many will do that, what's so special?" The other girl took my words and responded saying "She joined our company 40 days ago, she observed the team, analyzed the business and found out that the situation here is pathetic, she tried her best to improve the situation and realized that the problem lies in Managers and their pets. Today, she called a meeting with managers, told them that she has been working in an incompetent and useless team and then resigned." Then I looked at the girl, they were all talking about, she was not the one I gazed outside the restaurant. Surprisingly she was the only silent girl in the group and could not believe that she did what I heard. She is North Indian, pretty but not beautiful, had expressive eyes and cute smile. Despite hesitating within myself I started a conversation with her I : "Did you do whaaat, they just said?" She : Hmm. I : Bravo! I haven't seen anyone calling their managers incompetent and useless. She : Hmm. I : So what next? She : I haven't thought anything yet! I : Did you tell your parents? She : Why should I? It's my life? [liberal?? May be. I was silent and some words were flying around.] I : But, still I could not convince myself that you took right decision. [Wait, who am I here? why did I ask the question? Everyone were looking at me. I did hurt her with that question] She : I came to this company with great expectations, but the manager and team disappointed me badly. Till yesterday I tried my best to stay here. Managers and leads are incompetent, team was suffering. I felt I was wasting my skills and ruining my career. I came to a point where I felt that I would lead a better life without a job than working here. I am not sure if I took right decision but I followed by heart. [Honest but could not write off the influence of Zindagi Na Milega Dubara ] I : Oh, you could bare to live in a country with bad roads, poor governance, bad infrastructure and corruption. You would adjust to live under the leadership of autocratic selfish leaders but could not tolerate few managers and leads? Irony isn't it? [My friend has kicked my leg with her leg under the table. She(who resigned) took a minute, I could see some sort of unease in her eyes.] She: Mister who ever you are. I have great respect for our country, her history, rich culture and constitution. With great set of democratic principles, we started a new era and are going ahead inspiring many nations to choose our path. I agree that there is a great degree of dysfunction in many areas, but still I see great future for our country. I have been to few countries during my internship, I observed we as a country have very good social bonding. Even though we are divided by religion, region, caste and many factors, we have great connection to each other which I didn't see else where. But when it comes to the corporate I am working at, it is one of the best in ratings, has well established policies, good revenues with which they can hire best talent and improve the working standards. The Government has many loosely coupled departments resulting in poor governance which will take a lot of political will to reform the administration, but where as the corporate can implement change faster. I could stand my country with faith in democracy and constitution with primary objective as welfare of public, but could not stand the corporate with primary objective as making profits who could not set their home straight. I was blown out of my proportions with her reply. Never heard anyone even men speaking with such a sensible clarity. I interacted with many ladies, but never felt that I could come across someone who would make a lot of sense. I could imagine how others would have replied to my dumb question. Others might have simply told me to F**k Off, but she answered with great patience. Her views towards our country and drawing distinction between corporate and country has just doubled my respect towards her. I was silent for about 15 minutes and talked to my friend for sometime. I appreciated for her decision, asked her about her opinion on different social issues, came to know that she has good knowledge and she has been associated with different NGOs. I wished her all the best. Could not even dare to ask her name. But the little talk that I had with her for over 20 minutes has changed my perception towards women. She further added "In our village we daily walk 8kms to get drinking water, the young and able volunteer themselves to carry water to village as community service for the old and for cattle. I do that now, when ever I go to our village. It bonds us all." How many of us get a glass of water to our parents/grand parents? Women have great commitment and are looking forward to play a major role in our national development. I still feel that they lack opportunity. I request our friends especially men to respect, encourage and support them, am sure we can witness many wonders! Jai Hind! oka blog lo sadiva..... copy paste
