PM assures amicable solution of Telangana issue in a 'day or two'

New Delhi(PTI): Attempting to calm frayed nerves over the Telangana statehood issue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday assured non-Telangana Andhra MPs that he will work out an amicable solution to ’in a day or two’.

A group of MPs from Rayalseema and coastal regions led by Congress leader K S Rao met the PM this morning to demand an assurance that Telangana will not be separated from Andhra.

Rao told reporters the PM assured him that a solution which is acceptable to al parties will be arrived at soon.

On Sunday night, Union Minister of State for Steel A Sai Pratap had said the Central government is likely to make a "satisfactory" statement on Telangana issue on Monday night.

Talking to mediapersons in Kadapa, he said the Centre and the Congress high command are considering all aspects of the problem that erupted in Andhra Pradesh following the announcement by Home Minister P Chidambaram on Telangana.

He said the Centre's statement will satisfy the people of all regions.

All MPs of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions have successfully conveyed the feelings of the people to the government, Pratap said.

He recalled that Congress had stated in its manifesto in 2009 elections that it does not have any objection for Telangana and said that all political parties have given their consent for the formation of Telangana as a separate state. "The Central government has taken the decision to save KCR," he added.

The Union Home Minister's statement had some ambiguity and created lot of uproar in the state, he pointed out. He added that the state assembly has to pass a resolution to bifurcate the state and the same has to be sent to he Central government by the Governor with his recommendations.
