"Yes", asserts Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas, left-arm Sri Lankan quickie who along with Suraj Randiv were called up as cover for injured Angelo Mathews and Muttiah Muralitaran ahead of Mumbai final. Randiv played, Vaas sat out the finals. Sri Lanka went in to the much awaited all-Asian title clash with pacers Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thisara Perera along with spinners Muralitharan, Randiv and Tillakaratne Dilsha. But, Vaas, who has had a number of many an Indian batsmen was forced to watch from the sidelines as Mahi's boys went on to conjure some scintillating cricket and a trade mark helicopter shot for six from skipper won India its second World Cup title. Vaas, who was in the city to promote the Chaminda Vaas Benefit T20 Cricket Cup 2011 organised by Magnum Intergrafiks (P) Ltd along with Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association was assertive when he told STOI that, "India would not have won had I played that match." This may not be an empty boast given that Vaas has always done exceedingly well at the Wankhede whenever the Islanders have taken on the Indians in a cricket contest. Vaas, who currently plays county cricket for Nottinghamshire in England, says he fancied bowling to Sachin Tendulkar in the title clash. "I have great regards for him as a batsman," Vaas said, adding he would have been the ideal foil to Murali had the two played the finals. "I have good understanding with Murali, and when he kept one end tight, I picked up wickets, and even when vice-versa happened, Sri Lanka won many matches," he said.
