my f1 visa is expiring in aug 2012 and i am working on opt which is expiring december 2012 . Can i work on opt even with expired f1 visa ? if so will there be a problem in filing h1?

i know that i cannot go and come back from india with only opt. Your suggestion is more helpful....

You cant work if you F1 visa expires....to my knowledge...Opt is valid if your f1 visa has a valid date range....better to go for h1

Yes, You Can Work.

You can work even if ur F-1 visa expires....but make sure u apply for a H-1 and get a receipt number otherwise u cannot work if ur OPT expires......once ur OPT expires and u do not have a H-1 filed then u have these options
1) Go back to India
2) Get an admission in a University to maintain ur status.
3) Marry someone with a valid status.....

To my knowledge.. you can work.. as soon as you start your OPT, your F1 Visa does not have any value.. Coz, I passed thru the same status.. and was on that period for couple of months, after I got H1..

So, the moral here is.. You can work on OPT even though your F1 visa expires.

visa does not have anything to do.
only status matters in US. visa is only for travel purpose.
