In a clever move, the YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy turned the tables on his bête noir and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu on the Obulapuram Mining scam issue.
During his two-hour long questioning by the CBI officials in Hyderabad on Friday, Jagan went on the counter-offensive and wondered by the investigating agency had called him for grilling as he was in no way connected with it.
“I told the CBI officials that it was Chandrababu Naidu’s government that gave the mining lease to Obulapuram Mining Company in 2002,” Jagan told the media.
Jagan also made out a strong case for summoning Naidu for questioning with regard to the grant of mining lease to the Gali Janardhan Reddy owned company.
“I was called by the CBI only as a witness. The Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy was also questioned in a similar way,” the Kadapa MP clarified. He said he had handed over to the CBI the copy of a GO issued by the TDP government in 2002 approving mining license to OMC.
It is clear that Jagan is trying to give a new twist to the case by dragging his political rival into it. It remains to be seen whether the CBI will issue notice to Naidu, calling him for questioning in the case.
