Fight, Naidu To Farmers

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]The Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, urged farmers and agriculture labourers to fight for their rights. Mr Naidu launched Rythu Poru Bata from Aspari in Kurnool district on Fri-day. He started padayatra from 12 noon and walked about 18 kilometres.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Addressing farmers at several places, the TD president said that drought had hit farmers in an unprecedented way in the state.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]He alleged that the Congress had failed to solve their problems and added that farmers’ problems would not be solved unless the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission were implemented by the Central and state governments.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Mr Naidu said that farmers who suffered crop loss, should be paid a minimum compensation of Rs.10,000 per acre and their produce should be purchased by paying 50 per cent more than their investment.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Mr Naidu spoke to a woman farmer Rangamma between Aspari and Devanabanda villages. Ms Rangamma said that their problems were not being solved despite whichever party was coming to power.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Agriculture labourers Peddamma and Sujata said that prices of essential commodities skyrocketed after the Congress came to power. They said that Rs.150 power bill came for a house in which there was only one bulb.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]When Mr Naidu mentioned about Rs.1 a kg rice scheme, they said that prices of other essential commodities had increased.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]They asked the TD president to reduce prices and promised to vote for the TD.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Mr Urukundappa, an onion farmer, said that he had cultivated onion in 10 acres and yield sharply fell due to lack of irrigation water. He said that had invested about Rs.5 lakh to cultivate onion in 10 acres and added that it seemed to be that he would not get even Rs.1 lakh. Mr Urukundappa said that onion price fell to Rs.500 per quintal.[/left][/size][/font][/left][font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][left]Mr Naidu asked him to be brave and fight for his rights.
