Hyderabad, Nov 5: Byrreddy Ramalinga Raju, chairman of former Satyam Computers company, and brain behind the world’s biggest scam, was released on bail from the Chanchalguda Central Jail here on Saturday.

Ramalinga Raju, who cooled his heels in judicial custody for 32 months as an undertrial prisoner, secured bail from the Supreme Court. Along with him, his brother B Rama Raju, chief finance officer of former Satyam Computers Vadlamani Srinivas also secured bail from the Apex Court.

Raju’s defence counsels submitted necessary documents to the trial court for obtaining bail. In compliance of the Supreme Court direction, the CBI officers directed the Chanchalguda Central Jail officers to release the three accused. Accordingly, the three accused were released from the prison on Saturday evening.

It may be mentioned here that Ramalinga Raju, Rama Raju and Vadlamani Srinivas were arrested by the CBI officers on January 9, 2009 in connection with the Satyam scam case. They were shifted to the Chanchalguda Jail on the next day. On account of ill-health, the principal accused Ramalinga Raju underwent medical treatment in the NIMS on September 7 and December 15, 2009.

When Ramalinga Raju was granted bail by the High Court on August 18, 2010, the CBI went to the Supreme Court on September 13 challenging the High Court order. Consequently, the Apex Court set aside the bail order on October 26 last year. With this, Ramalinga Raju and his accomplices were shifted to the Chanchalguda Jail.

The police tightened security around the Jail premises on Saturday in view of the release of the Satyam Computers scam accused. The trio left for their residences in their own cars.
