Delegates From 13 Countries Begin Discussions On High Energy Materials

[color=#3F3F3F][font=Georgia,]Based on a theme - Development and characterisation of high energy materials for insensitive munitions and advances made in detonics for in-depth understanding of various aspects of high energy materials - the eighth international High Energy Materials Conference and Exhibit-2011 commenced today at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory’s facility in Ramgarh.[/font][/color]


[color=#3F3F3F]In all 625 delegates, from 13 countries are participating in the three-day international conference, in which there shall be 26 invited talks, 125 oral presentations in 24 technical sessions and over 220 posters on various subjects including explosive material applications, safety, hazards and disposal, pyrotechnics will also be displayed in an exhibition.[/color]

[color=#3F3F3F]While addressing the audience, Srikumar Banerjee, Chairman Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to Govt of India, Department of Atomic Energy, enumerated various achievements of TBRL over the years and the stellar role played by it in enhancing India’s military capability, internal security as well as its space programme. Giving pointers for the future, Banerjee said, “In all likelihood there will never be another major war. However what will remain are highly targeted attacks, terror strikes, ambushes etc. Scientists can play a great role in developing detection systems, protective gear that can be used by the army and the police to minimise the impact of such strikes.”[/color]


[color=#3F3F3F]A Shubhanand Rao, Chief Controller R&D (Aero), DRDO HQ and resident, High Energy Materials Society of India (HEMSI) appreciated the conference that is acting as a forum for interaction among the scientists and researchers working in the field of high energy materials and related technologies .[/color]

[color=#3F3F3F]Earlier, in his welcome address, Satish Kumar, Director DRDO, Delhi and Chairman, Organising Committe, HEMCE-2001 said, “This international conference is expected to help upgrade India’s defence, space and internal security systems and also generate a road map for future work in the field of pyrotechnics, propellants, high explosives and related fields. We have leading global experts who will be sharing their expertise and knowledge on the latest technologies now in use in the world as well as the latest trends in research on a host of sensitive subjects.”[/color]
